ALANYA HARBOUR – WATCHING THE SHIPS GO SAILING BY

ALANYA is the perfect place to visit anytime of the year.

Alanya Harbour is a vibrant and picturesque tourist hot spot which is visited by locals and holiday makers throughout the year.

The harbour is full of all kinds of boats, tiny colourful fishing boats, small cruise ships, fishing charter boats and the huge highly decorated party style boats that are famous for their booze cruises.

We love the harbour in the Winter and early Spring as it is cool to walk around and explore every corner and, of course, it is less crowded and more peaceful.

We took photos as we walked around and you can see even in February there is plenty activity and much to see.

Always make time for Cay the Turkish Way

Walking along the jetty towards the lighthouse we were offered cups of tea and tours of the boats. We met a very nice boat owner called Cemal. He kindly ordered cay for us and so we sat with him by his boat and chatted.

Cemal told us some stories of past businesses in the area and we heard about his Welsh connections. We talked of the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana. Cemal even knew some Welsh words which impressed us greatly! Then we saw the boats he is meticulously restoring to sell. The quality of materials he is using is the very best. The crafts are restored as if they were not for sale and were being restored to keep. If anyone wants to buy a boat this is the man to go to.

It was, in all a very interesting break and a very welcome hot drink.

This, of course, is what is lovely about Turkey and you really must allow time to absorb everything and not rush here and there.

Summer Season 2019

All the boat owners told us that many of the boats are late back in the water this year. This is because there has been so much rain at the end of 2018 and start of 2019. Almost 45 days of rain without a break which has never been heard of in this part of Turkey. Most hope to be back in the water at the beginning of March. Then but, just as we walked back to the car, we heard thunder and saw the rain clouds forming over the mountain once again – so maybe they will, or maybe they won’t.
