The New Alanyian Singers supporting good causes in Alanya
The New Alanyian Choir performed at Dizzys Bar Mahmutlar on Sunday and gave us a real treat with their happy and joyful rendition of classic songs mixed with some occasional humorous playful fun.
This group is very special and is to commended for what they do. We thought we would take a little time and explain this to you all.
Who are the New Alanyian Singers
The New Alanyian Singers was founded by Andrew Cameron who works tirelessly and without recompense to provide a rich variety of activity groups for locals, temporary foreign residents and the permanent ‘New Alanyian’ population. These groups greatly assist in cultural integration and there are activities to suit all tastes including English and Turkish linguistic support, dancing and social get togethers.
The choir is made up of around 20 singers, many of whom work locally in the tourism industry. A variety of languages are spoken by members but the current chosen language for their songs is English. They have become a close-knit group who enjoy what they do and care very much for each other and for the communities in which they live.
The group is made up of people who genuinely love to sing. Whilst doing what they enjoy they also try to raise money for good causes.
They have, for example, greatly helped children with cancer by helping to ensure their families can be there with them when they are going through the trauma of treatment in Antalya.
They have also helped the new-born babies in the maternity unit of our local prison so that these helpless little ones have enough supplies to be clean and comfortable.
Here is a snippet of their performance in Dizzys on Sunday
Do you love to sing?
Andrew is always on the lookout for new members to join the group.
You don’t need to be able to read music, you just need to have enthusiasm and love for singing.
The group meets every WEDNESDAY EVENING at the SUNPRIME C-Lounge where they are kindly given free facilities by Sucru Cimrin who is a member of the Belediyesi. After rehearsals the group then go upstairs to the lounge bar to enjoy singing in Karen’s Karaoke Evening.
All in all a great evening for all involved.
It’s wonderful to see people prepared to give back to the community and a great way to enjoy yourself and do good at the same time.
So …….why not give it a try?
